Supervised research projects through to publication across a wide variety of topics relating to human augmentation such as haptics, telepresence, human sensing, augmented reality, robotic augmentation, vocal transformation, and human-machine interaction (see Publications for details). Supervised students to the completion of their thesis. Conducted public relations duties such as conference and meeting presentations, lab tours, and open houses. Participated in conference organization and operation. Managed lab operations and funding from both corporate and government sources. The latter includes major funding programs such as ERATO, CREST, and Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas.

Research Assistant 2015–2020

Developed multi-agent formation, route, and path planning algorithms. Evaluated algorithms by developing and running discrete-time simulations as well as conducting hardware experiments. Co-designed and validated the millirobot used in several hardware experiments. Co-designed several swarm algorithms for this robot. Supervised seven graduate and undergraduate students addressing related sub-problems and served as head teaching assistant for an undergraduate course.

The design and implementation of a large scale robotic work platform for reducing strain on workers in a hydroponic seedling farm. Developed initial prototype of the Bevo Farms Mothership. Specifically focused on devloping the autonomous control system and electronics for sensing and mobility.

Embedded Systems Research Engineer May 2014–September 2014

Developed real time machine vision applications for use on mobile and embedded applications. Designed and constructed experimental prototypes and proof of concept devices for new device ideas. Devices included embedded sensor devices employing machine vision and wireless networking.

Worked in the Actuating Technologies Group of the Core Technologies Department to apply the HALCON machine vision software package for image processing of a visually cluttered environment. Evaluated and improved the operation of a mechanism for linear actuation. Assisted in the design of the control circuitry and experimental setup for the mechanism.

Created and managed the registrations for a nationally written exam for students up to Grade 10. Assisted in organizing events and competitions for encouraging the public to take interest in the sciences. Researched and wrote articles for publication on a web platform.
